Toward the back of the San Rocco church, underneath the main fresco, there is a wall with a large quantity of incisions. Many of the images are repeated several times. Their meaning is unknown although they might function as a kind of spontaneous ex-voto made by members of the congregation. Despite the fact that they have their origins more than a century after Mennochio's death (in the early 18th century), I decided to document and recuperate each one of those groups of incisions by the symbolic value that they represent with respect to the town and the church. In my opinion, these gestures constitute a mix between a submissive act before God and the institution and a response with a certain rebellious charge, in which the individual's opinion is imposed and registered within the context of the church.
