I drew all the hand gestures that appear in the murals of the church of San Rocco, arranging them on a single plane. I wanted to refer directly to the studies of Giovanni Morelli about the different ways of representing hands in art history. Morelli proposed a revolutionary way of determining the authorship of old paintings. He said that the things worth analyzing are the seemingly insignificant details, such as ears, hands or creases in cloth. He considered these are the places where a counterfeiter would most likely leave his or her trace, by not paying sufficient attention to detail.
